As Dr. Greene mentioned in my earlier article, BornFree is the first company to come out with a full line of baby products that are BPA-Free. Due to Dr. Greene’s interest and history in speaking about BPA, BornFree approached him to talk about their products, which he continues to do as opportunities arise. I was sent free samples of Born Free’s baby products to try and I write this review without payment from BornFree. I consider it a privilege when companies are willing to send samples so that I can provide readers with tried and true reviews. Born Free Logo

BornFree specializes in developing products that are 100% free of Bisphenol-A, Phthalates, PVC and Aluminum. The BornFree product line currently includes baby bottles (5 oz and 9 oz sizes), cups and accessories such as: replacement nipples, valves, collars, bottle caps, seal disks, cup spouts, handles, travel caps, silicone sleeves, a formula dispenser, as well as twister brushes to clean cups and bottles and pacifiers and teethers. BornFree even has a breast pump adapter that fits most breast pumps, so nursing moms, we weren’t left out! (Ha Ha!) BornFree also offers eco-friendly baby bottles and a water bottles for the rest of the family. Breast Pump Adapter

I am a full-fledged breastfeeding mom and have only used bottles on rare occasions. So my son has never even used a baby bottle, but when we tested one of the baby bottles, our son did not have any trouble with the flow of liquid that came out. Each of the bottles has seven parts: the bottle, the silicone vent, white plastic vent cover, sealing disk, nipple, collar and travel cap. In our use, the bottle was leak free around the cover and collar as long as the bottle was assembled correctly. When we first put it together, it leaked but that was because we put it together wrong. BornFree offers bottle nipples in 5 different flow rates, so there is a wide variety to meet the growing needs of your baby from 0-18 months. (BornFree’s product recommendation)Picture.aspx

I like the valve design on these products better than valves we have used in other products, not just because of the BPA-free factor, but they seal well and are not actually attached to the nipple of the bottle or cover of the training/sippy cup.

We love the training cup, even though it is not spill-proof. We did discover that the sealing disks that came with the baby bottles may also be used on the sippy cup to prevent spills, both when our son was not drinking and for traveling. Otherwise this cup does leak out the mouth spout, even with the travel cap on. If the cup is tipped, liquid will leak into the cap, creating a mess when the cap is lifted. However, the collar seal – when tightly twisted – does not leak. As I stated for the bottles, when we first put the valve system and collar together, it leaked and we did the same thing with the sippy cup, but when everything is assembled correctly, there are no leaks around the collar. It’s great that there is now a BPA-free product line that specializes in providing an alternative to the other products on the market, thus, making it safer to feed babies artificially; but remember, if you can, breastfeeding is always best. As with any products of this nature, they do seem to cost more, but in the long run do we value money saved or our child’s health?

BornFree products may be purchased directly from the BornFree website. We just received our new catalog from VitaCost and noticed that they are now selling BornFree products too. You may also check this link to locate a store near you.
